All of them have been selected with utmost care according to strict criteria: quality, beauty, class, comfort, impeccable service. In a word: luxury.

Managing the Italia Lodging website we have been dealing with many different kinds of accommodation over the years, and quality has always been the main keyword in the selection of lodgings to be listed. As the overall level of hotels and country inns grew higher and higher, we soon realised that some of them were somewhat special and tended to stand out both aesthetically and qualitatively: beyond high standards, they had “personality”. They were not simply farm houses or standard hotels, so we thought they deserved particular attention and should be promoted separately in a website that could exalt all their charm and style.

“Luxury Accommodation in Italy” was devised following the exalting idea of creating a “luxury only” network, a garland of incomparable pearls all over Italy which are so different form each other yet all so fascinating, so gorgeous, so luxurious. Just a few selected places, all bookable on-line, for the most demanding clients who plan to spend an exclusive stay in Italy filling their eyes with beauty and wrapping themselves in a soft blanket of comfort, treat and class.

Take your time, have a look. Choosing your destination is not going to be an easy task.

http://www.luxury-accommodation-italy.com/

Exclusive Hotel in Venice

For over a century, this intimate, charming Venice hotel has been quietly extending its very special brand of hospitality to guests from around the world. It used to be easily identified by its squat bottle enclosed in a straw basket, called fiasco ("flask"). (The fiasco is only used by a few makers of the wine now; most Chianti is bottled in traditionally shaped wine bottles.) Low-end Chianti is generally fairly inexpensive, with a basic Chianti running less than US$10, though more sophisticated Chiantis are made and sold at substantially higher price points.

The popularity and high exportability of this wine at the moment of introduction of the DOC, 1963, was such that many regions of central Tuscany didn't want to be excluded from the use of the name. As a result the large (for Italian standards) production area was split in seven sub-regions: Classico, Rùfina, Colli Senesi, Colli Fiorentini, Montalbano, Colli Aretini, Colline Pisane (from 1994 there is a new sub-area: Montespertoli, formerly part of Colli Fiorentini). Wines labeled Chianti Classico come from the heart of the area that is traditionally attributed to this wine. The other variants, with the exception of Rufina from the north-east side of Florence and Montalbano in the south of Pistoia, originate in the respective named provinces: Siena, Firenze (Florence), Arezzo and Pisa.

Until the middle of the 19th century Chianti was based solely on Sangiovese grapes. During the second half of 19th century Baron Bettino Ricasoli who was an important Chianti producer and, in the same time, minister in Tuscany and then Prime Minister in the Kingdom of Italy, imposed his ideas: from that moment on Chianti should have been produced with 70% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo and 15% Malvasia bianca (Malvasia bianca is an aromatic white grape with Greek origins). During the 1970s, producers started to reduce the quantity of white grapes in Chianti and eventually from 1995 it is legal to produce a Chianti with 100% sangiovese, or at least without the white grapes. It may have a picture of a black rooster (known in Italian as a gallo nero) on the neck of the bottle, which indicates that the producer of the wine is a member of the "Gallo Nero" Consortium; an association of producers of the Classico region sharing marketing costs. Aged Chianti (38 months instead of 4-7), may be labelled as Riserva. Chianti that meets more stringent requirements, (lower yield, higher alcohol content and dry extract) may be labelled as Chianti Superiore. Chianti from the "Classico" sub-area is not allowed in any case to be labelled as "Superiore".

Chianti is not the only traditional wine made in Tuscany, and there are also new wines, based on sangiovese (i.e.: Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano etc.) and some popular French grapes that are usually dubbed "Super Tuscans". Due to rule changes, some of these wines (particularly the pioneering Tignanello) could legally be labeled as Chianti, though many producers of these wines have chosen not to do so.

The word "Chianti" can be used as a semi-generic name in the United States if the place of origin is clearly indicated next to the word to avoid consumer confusion. However, with the popularity of varietal labeling, semi-generic names are rarely used today, even on jug wines.

Due to the wine's relative cheapness, its easy-drinking qualities, and the frequent use of the empty fiasco as a candleholder, Chianti is very strongly identified with Italian American cuisine, especially the "red sauce" variety pioneered by southern Italian immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th century.

A Florence View - bed and breakfast Florence

Tuscany: Migliarino - San Rossore Park

Close to Versilia and the world's most famous tower (in Pisa), a mosaic of miraculously integral natural environments, protected by the park.
The beach is among the most solitary of the Tuscan coast and abounds in low dunes and pioneer plants.
Inland, green pine forests planted from the eighteenth century onward, fragrant expanses of Mediterranean underbrush and strips of mixed woods that host a rare vine, the periploca, deer and wild boar.
As for wetlands, Lake Massaciuccoli hosts an important avifauna and precious peat-bogs that extend among the cane-brakes .
MIGLIARINO - SAN ROSSORE - MASSACIUCCOLI REGIONAL PARK
Extension: 23.115 ettari.
Sede: Via Aurelia nord, 4 - 56122 Pisa - tel. 050 525500.
Sito web: www.parks.it/parco.migliarino.san.rossore

A nice spot to be visited from Florence (1 hour by car).

A Florence View - Bed and breakfast Florence

San Gimignano, Tuscany bed and breakfast

In Italia Lodging, Charming accommodation in Italy, you have a small but significant choice of bed and breakfast in San Gimignano.

These accommodation, both located inside the old historic centre and in the surrounding country-side, are extremely charming and very well manged.

Il Palagetto:
Extremely nice apartments and B&B in rooms in San Gimignano
In the stupendous setting of the San Gimignano hills, only one kilometer from the old town centre, you will find the "Il Palagetto" residence, which offers its guests a unique opportunity to enjoy an exceptional holiday full of beauty and relaxation. At the end of the 13th century, the nine-centuries-old church of Santa Reparata was crumbling with age, as attested in documents of that time. Furthermore, it was becoming too small in a period of rapid population expansion. Prosperous Florence wanted to surpass in grandeur its Tuscan rivals, Pisa and Siena, with a more magnificent church, grander in size and more richly adorned at the exterior. This cathedral was, as a result, the largest in Europe when it was completed, with room for 30,000 people. It is now only exceeded in size by Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City, Saint Paul's Cathedral in London, the Seville Cathedral, and the Milan Cathedral.

The new church was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1296 to be the largest Roman Catholic church in the world (although the design was altered several times and later reduced in size). Arnolfo di Cambio was also the famous architect of the church of Santa Croce and the Palazzo Vecchio. He designed three wide naves ending under the octogonal dome, with the middle nave covering the surface of Santa Reparata. The first stone was laid on September 9, 1296 by cardinal Valeriana, the first papal legate ever sent to Florence. The building of this vast project was to last 170 years, the collective efforts of several generations.

After Arnolfo died in 1302, work on the cathedral slowed or was suspended during thirty years. The building drive got a new impetus, when the relics of San Zanobius were discovered in 1330 in San Reparata. In 1331, the Arte della Lana (Guild of Wool Merchants) took over the exclusive patronage for the construction of the cathedral and in 1334 they appointed Giotto as overseer for the work. Assisted by Andrea Pisano, he continued along di Cambio's design. His major accomplishment was the building campanile, but he died in 1337. Andrea Pisano continued the building, until he was stopped by the Black Plague in 1348.

It was not until 1349 that work resumed on the cathedral itself under a series of architects, starting with Francesco Talenti, who finished the belltower and enlarged the overall project with the apse and the side chapels, but did not alter the outside. After 1359 he was succeeded by Giovanni di Lapo Ghini (1360–1369) who divided the center nave in four square bays. Other architects were Alberto Arnoldi, Giovanni d'Ambrogio, Neri di Fioravante and Orcagna. By 1375 the old church Santa Reparata was pulled down. The nave was finished by 1380, and by 1418 only the dome was left uncompleted.

Drawing of Brunelleschi's dome.
The walls are covered in alternate vertical and horizontal bands with many-colored marble from Carrara (white), Prato (green), Siena (red), Lavenza and a few other places. These marble bands had to repeat the decorations of the Baptistery and Giotto's belltower. There are two lateral door, the Doors of the Canonici (south side) and the Door of the Mandorla (north side) with works of art of Nanni di Banco, Donatello, and Jacopo della Quercia. The six lateral windows, notable for their delicate tracery and ornaments, are separated by pilasters. Only the four windows, closest to the transept, admit light; The other two are merely ornamental. The clerestory windows are round, a common feature in Italian Gothic. The floor of the church was laid in marble in the 16th century.

During its long history, this cathedral has been the seat of the Council of Florence (1439), heard the preachings of Girolamo Savonarola and witnessed the murder of Giuliano di Piero de' Medici on 26 April 1478 (with Lorenzo Il Magnifico barely escaping death).

In Florence: extremely easy to see

Right outside the bed and breakfast windows:

Santa Maria del Fiore, the Gothic cathedral erected over the ancient basilica of Santa Reparata, was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio who began construction in 1296. Brunelleschi completed it in 1436 with the elegant dome, the inside of which was entirely frescoed by Vasari and Zuccari. The final phase in the construction of the cathedral, that is the completion of the façade, dates from the mid-19th century.
To the right of the cathedral rises the Bell Tower, or Campanile, designed by Giotto in 1334. The square tower is covered with red, green and white marble inlays, decorated with panels and carvings, and made graceful by double- and triple-windows.
Opposite the Cathedral stands the green and white marble Baptistery of San Giovanni (1128), a masterpiece of Florentine Romanesque architecture. The interior of the dome is decorated with mosaics. The splendid bronze doors (including the Door of Paradise) were made by Andrea Pisano and Lorenzo Ghiberti.
The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo houses artworks from Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery and the Campanile, including sculptures that had been made for the cathedral façade. The most important works in the museum are by Michelangelo ("Pietà"), Donatello ("Mary Magdalen", "Cantoria"), Arnolfo di Cambio ("Boniface VIII"), Luca della Robbia ("Cantoria").

A Florence View bed and breakfast staff

Dolomites accommodation: Val di Fassa Hotels, Italy

Comprising seven individual villages and located amid some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe, Val Di Fassa has it all. The agreement is for the launch of six new Ryanair destinations from Pisa/Florence airport (the airline sells Pisa as the airport but Florence as the destination) as from 14 September next. In the coming weeks, Apt will host a press tour of journalists from Britain, Germany and Italy who have been invited to visit our city and get to know it better.

The new destinations planned from Tuscany are OSLO, DONCASTER (UK), VALENCIA, TRAPANI, FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, KARLSRUHE-BADEN, in addition to the eleven already operational (Alghero, Hamburg, Bournemouth, Brussels, Dublin, Eindhoven, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Glasgow, Liverpool and London Stansted).
Ryanair website

Ryanair, Europe's N° 1 low-cost airline, is strengthening its position in Tuscany as the preferred destination for the new links with important European cities. This route expansion is excellent news for the tourism of the whole region because it will contribute an additional 410,000 passengers per year to the area's tourism.

Pisa airport, which is also one of Ryanair's three operational bases in Italy, has a total of 17 routes flown by the airline which is no less than 20% of the total of the 87 flown from Italy. "Tuscany has always been a very important destination for Ryanair since we began flying here in 1998 says Alessia Viviani, the airline's Marketing Manager for Italy.

In October 2005 Pisa/Florence became the 14th Ryanair base. We presently have 17 routes carrying 1 million six hundred thousand passengers a year. We can confidently say that we have "spoiled" the many tourists who choose to visit this splendid region by our rock bottom prices and highly efficient air service".Indeed Ryanair has reached the impressive total of 30 million passengers carried to Italy since the beginning of operations.

Italy is now the most important country after the United Kingdom for the number of passengers carried, and of these no fewer than 4 and a half million transited Pisa/Florence.

"Florence is fast growing in tourism - says the President of the Province Matteo Renzi - thanks also to agreements like this. It is another important part of the mosaic which goes to make up improved links and opportunities Europe-wide, making Florence a leader in quality cultural tourism. We are very happy with this agreement"."The great ability of Florence to attract new guests - adds APT Director Antonio Preiti - is confirmed by the agreement with Ryanair which provides greater incentives to make our destination ever more global and able to capture the attention of the media, and of European tourist operators. Speedy, transparent and smart: this is the strategy that pays most".

Article from http://www.firenzeturismo.it/

A Florence View bed and breakfast in Florence

Maranello, Ferrari

Somebody understands the meaning of a red passion..... . The climate is continental, with fairly cold winters and relatively high humidity, which also makes itself felt in July and August, the hottest months, when many Florentines head out into the nearby hills to cool off. We know the number of inhabitants and its composition, we know the location and the economic data of this city but what do we know about its spirit and history saturation in every its stone?

Reading the articles of other authors we learn that London is a city of contrasts where the modern meets the ancient, people of different backgrounds and social positions stand side by side and the austere style with grey colours is perfectly combined with the bright colours of today’s life.

London is called the city of Museums since every building and every square was erected many years ago and played certain role in the history of this city.

London is thought to be a city of cities as besides people of different nations and origins came here to settle bringing their culture and customs; London is formed of several small cities, united into one, each with its characteristic features and buildings.

London is a city of a fancier: here you can find everything to entertain yourself and to please yourself. You will spend hours in exploring this city and can say for sure that you never perceive it. To get accommodated in London and to spend wonderful hours in explorations please visit: Cheap London Hotels.

London is believed to be the best city for business. Recently 12 categories of positive factors for business running were analyzed. Among them there were the market access, staff qualification, labour and office cost, attitude of the government towards the businessmen and general level of life in the city. London won the first place in the list!

London was proclaimed the most expensive city in Europe. Life is very costly in London and those living in London have to come down with their money. The British metropolis in cost of living stands the third in the list after Tokyo and Osaka and before Moscow. The market researchers explain the leading position of London in cost of living by high price of accommodation and transportation in London.

To sum up we can say that London is a city to visit, is a city to stay at and to enjoy every minute spent here.

London is a city-fairy tale as it has so much miracles and things to wonder at!

Bed and Breakfast in Italy: how to choose

If you are supposed to know exactly what to expect from a Hotel, it is not always easy to predict what you are going to get in case you are willing to book a bed and breakfast in Italy.

If with hotels the universal rating system (stars) should work properly, with other types of accommodations such as bed and breakfast, independent apartments, guest houses and country inns, the situation is quite different. In these cases you have to trust what you see and what you read.

Serious innkeepers and companies promoting these types of accommodation should be as transparent as possible. You should be able to know exactly the location (the use of an interactive map surely helps), you should be able to see as many rooms pictures as possible, a broad description and a list of facilities/amenities available at the accommodation.

What about reviews? Are they candid? I must confess that many times a review or a guest comment could be more misleading than a bad picture. How you know about other people standards and requirements? Maybe they were on a budget and for them a shared bathroom was more than ok, and they were extremely happy just for the fact that have spent 5 euros less than in another accommodation.

What makes you referent more reliable is when they offer the possibility to talk with somebody: if you are booking a bed and breakfast and you are thousands miles away, the best and most relaxing thing is to know that you have somebody to talk to and to interact with, somebody who is able to answer your questions and clarify every single doubt. Even if by e-mail or by phone you should be able to deal with humans and not with automatic systems.

Find an Italy accommodation website which deal mainly with bed and breakfast and which is listing not all of them. Here we list a few of them:

THE MEDICI VILLAS DI CASTELLO AND DELLA PETRAIA
The Villa di Castello was restored for Cosimo I de' Medici who commissioned Tribolo to design and build the beautiful Italian gardens. The interior of the Villa, headquarters of the Accademia della Crusca, is not open to the public. The Villa della Petraia is just a short distance away; the Medici ordered Buontalenti to remodel it in the 16th century. The villa, frescoed by Cosimo Daddi (1591-94) and Volterrano (1636-48) was the residence of King Vittorio Emanuele II during the 19th century.
MUSEO STIBBERT
This museum contains the collections that Frederick Stibbert bequeathed to the city in 1906. The armor and weapons are the most outstanding items.
PARCO DI VILLA DEMIDOFF
The Villa Demidoff park is located at Pratolino, on the Via Bolognese. Little remains of the splendid villa that Buontalenti built for Francesco I de' Medici in 1575. The park, that has been completely restored, is open from April to October, and it is a wonderful place to visit outside the city. Giambologna's monumental statue of the "Appennines" (1579-89) is an outstanding example of Florentine Mannerism.
FIESOLE
Nestled on a hill overlooking the Arno valley, in a splendid panoramic setting, Fiesole dates back to ancient times as we can see from the vast archeological area with ruins of the Etruscan temple and walls, the Roman amphitheater and baths and the Museo Civico that contains many excavated items. The Gothic Cathedral of San Romolo (12th century) and the Basilica of Sant'Alessandro, the oldest in the city, are places of interest. The Museo Bandini, with its collection of paintings by Italian artists from the 13th to 15th century and the Museo Primo Conti, with oils and drawings by the recently deceased Florentine artist, are both worth a visit.
CENACLE OF SAN SALVI
What was once the refectory of the former Vallombrosian monastery of San Salvi contains Andrea del Sarto's fresco of the "Last Supper" (1526-27).
SETTIGNANO
This is a small village that grew up on the hillside north east of Florence; it can be reached by bus or via a panoramic drive along the hills from Fiesole. Gabriele D'Annunzio lived here in the Villa la Capponcina; the gardens of the Villa Gamberaia are considered among the loveliest in Europe and offer unforgettable views of Florence.
CERTOSA DEL GALLUZZO
Just 2 kilometers south of Florence rises the austere, fortress-like Certosa del Galluzzo. Founded by Niccolò Acciaiuoli in the 14th century to host young Florentines wanting to study the liberal arts, today it is inhabited by a group of Cistercian Benedictine monks. It contains several important artworks including five lunettes with "Scenes from the Passion", frescoed by Pontormo (1523-25).

A Florence View - bed and breakfast in Florence

Florence Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum contains one of the most important collections of Etruscan art in the world. It is housed in the Palazzo della Crocetta, which was built for the grand duchess MariaMadalena of Austria in 1620, probably by Giulio Parigi.Established in 1870, the museum was housed in the current building in 1880.

One section of the Archaeological Museum is formed by the Egyptian collections, the most important in Italy after those of Turin.

The original core of the Egyptian section, which was formerly housed in the Cenacolo di Foligno, was the Nizzoli collection, purchased in 1824, together with pieces from the Italian expedition headed by Ippolito Rosellini, which took place at the same time as the French expedition of Champollion. The collection was subsequently added to through numerous acquisitions and donations, as well as by the finds of the 1885 and 1891-92 archaeological campaigns in Egypt led by Schiaparelli.

The museum's most famous work, the bronze Greek statue known as the Idolino, is housed in the Room of the Idolino.
